No. 21 Cute Fortress
Once upon a time the little girl was on a camping holiday with her parents and brothers. Living in Scotland meant they never had to travel very far to find a wonderful spot to camp. Beautiful, peaceful, white sand beaches, and turquoise sea. The little girl loved travelling between campsites and seeing the wonderful countryside. Around every corner was another gorgeous mountainous view, an imposing castle, a tumbled down ruin, or a serene loch. Sometimes there was all of these these things in one wondrous landscape.
Castles were inevitably build in the most inaccessible places. Balancing precariously on a rocky shore or even on a tiny island adrift in a loch with no obvious explanation of how the stone building materials had been transported there. The site of these castles was obviously chosen so that they were defendable and intimidating but to the little girl they were also gaspingly beautiful and cutely fairytale. The little girl suspected that the fierce highland clan chieftains did not have “cute” in mind when they built their fortress homes.
