No.17 Introduction To Illustrating

Once upon a time the little girl loved to read stories. One of the first books she ever read was “The Faraway Tree”. It was a fantastical story of unusual characters and a multitude of different worlds. The book had line drawings inside to illustrate the story which the little girl coloured in with crayons.

At that time the little girl didn’t pay much attention to the illustrations when reading the book because she preferred the images in her head. In some ways looking at the provided illustration spoilt the story. It took something away from the magical, mystical, dream like images in her mind, the images the little girl couldn’t quite get hold of and didn’t think she could ever hope to put onto paper.

The more books the little girl read, the more illustrations she saw, the more she wanted to try to express the magical, mystical, dream like images in her head. Mythical animals, castles, knights, and fantasy landscapes dominated the output of her school art classes……..and continued to dominate her artwork for years later.
