No.18 Sounds Like The Past

The little girl had a friend who lived just on the outskirts of the little town. Her friend lived in a large house with lots of rooms, lots of staircases, and lots of corridors. There was also a large garden with lots of trees and shrubs, plenty of places to build dens, treehouses, and rope swings.

The little girl always enjoyed visiting her friends house. There was always something new to explore. It was also only a short distance from a wood and the little girl and her friend spent lots of time there too. That was the little girls favourite thing to do, exploring the wood.

They would walk or cycle along the tracks through the trees. There was an abandoned house next to the wood. They would pause to look at the abandoned house every time they visited the wood. Each time the fabric of the house had deteriorated some more. There was also an ancient ruined tower that was mostly just a pile of moss covered stones with only one partial wall still standing. It was strange to think that one day the abandoned house would also be nothing but a pile of moss covered stones.

The woods were quiet and calm. The only sounds were those of the wildlife rustling in the undergrowth and birds singing. The sound that most reminded the little girl of those days was the sounds of Wood Pigeons cooing. Such a reassuring sound. It was almost like the sound of a purring cat. The sound of Wood Pigeons would forever transport the little girl back in time to those happy, carefree days in the past.
